How can I obtain the Hana to Yume magazine?

There have been no suitable raws for Skip Beat suitable for me to use. So, I'm currently considering the idea to do my own scanning. But in order to do so, I need to find a way to obtain the Hana to Yume magazine.

The scanners have found a way to obtain this manga 2 days before the official stated release. (For example, if the previous issue says the next issue is released on the 5th, they would have gotten it by the 3rd.) I need to be able to do the same. I just haven't figured out how.

Does anyone know of a place in Singapore where you can get it? I tried the local manga stores, they don't ship from Japan. I haven't tried Kinokuniya stores yet, but I doubt they can get the manga 2 days before the official release even if they did ship it.

I need to find a way to procure a copy of this every 2 days before its respective release. Does anyone have any ideas how I may be able to do this?

In addition, here's another question. Do you guys want me to continue with this? Unrelatedwaffle released her translation a mere half day later than mine. I'm not that much faster. And without suitable raws to use, I have no scanlations to offer. I can only give the translated script at the most, and it's not as if mine is the only one out there.

  2. I wish you the best of luck trying to obtain the Hana to Yume magazine. I've loved your scanlations, but please don't stop with your translations even if that is all you can do for a while! Your work is incredible and you seem very kind. Don't let an obstacle keep you from moving on!

  3. Thanks ever so much for the translations! I hope you continue since this is my favorite place to get SB updates!

As for raws, I used to get a subscription from Akadotretail or jlist which was nice since they send magazines out days before the "release date" but I have no idea what retailers are available in Singapore so all I can do is wish you the best of luck! ^_^

I am from country where is NOOOOO WAY IN HELL possibility that I could buy manga like SB. Plus it has been licensed on MF etc. so I am (sorry for this) seriously fucked up!
That is why I really beg you please dont stop your translations. I am happy with the script and raws.
So once again thank you very much for your hard work <3

Yours is way better honestly <.<. However I cannot help you to get these thingies from Singapore..... I really have no idea how to get these. I will try to get some information but yeah... we will find a solution! Defenitely supporting you Mechgouki.

Hm...I think they have a subscription
to Hana-to-Yume, but I'm not sure.

You can ask the people who received raws
    2 days before official release.

You can try online auctions, yesasia, or
    benippon to get a subscription.

Or maybe a book store to get it ordered?

But I'm not sure if it'll release before
    the release date...

    I hope that helped. ;_;
    (Sorry if it didn't!)

  13. please don't stop. Franky House doesn't have dedicated project, so they stop scanning stuff on a regular basis.

As for speed, they already have raw of 163 since yesterday, but they haven't released 163 yet

    ReplyDelete
  14. PLEASE CONTINUE! Ever since onemanga shut down I haven't been able to read anywhere else without getting a virus!
Who cares if there are others who scan it!

Hope you can get the scan~!

  15. Hi, I usually just lurk without commenting. But this is important. Please don't stop!
Even 1/2 a day is great. But I don't just come here for the scanlations. I love your comments, news & the feeling that everyone who visits adores SB just as much as I do.
I can't do anything to help with getting scans or finding H to Y. All I can do is say, well done, really appreciate your efforts.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, it's me again. Adding to what Chass said... Franky House has had the raws posted since yesterday, and unrelatedwaffles has had the translation finished a little after you had yours finished. They have yet to post the final scanlations. They do not work as hard to get things finished in a timely manner. Don't give up! Hopefully I'll be back again with some places to get the Hana to Yume magazine in your area. Everyone here loves your work!!

    Sincerely,
    Rachel

  17. you shouldn't consider stopping!!like everyone above said we all love your work!!!!!and please continue doing so from now on!!the translations, the ps story, the comments and even you getting angry are really cool things that keep your blog always fresh!!! unfortunately i can't help you at all with the "hana to yume" problem... but i'm your fan:)

  18. It's true that FH haven't released the scanlations as fast as you may wish for, but people do have lives you know! And what is this about timely manner?! Nobody gave a timetable saying that the scanlations have to be released on the day it is out (technically it was supposed to be out on 4/5th). People are so impatient, it annoys me! SB fans are too spoilt!!! I mean guys we got to see the raws a day before it was officially released!!!! Quit complaining!

Anyway, Mechgouki take as long as you need to in getting a hand on the raws and releasing a scanlation. In the meantime for truly desperate fans, learn Japanese if you really are dying, I'm sure there are online courses to get started... Is there any way of ordering the magazine online or something?

And please don't stop, it's nice to have different versions out there (why should one group have the monopoly? We should have the right to choose!)

  19. OF Course!! Your Scanlations are the BEST!! Every Skip Beat! Fan who knows f your blog goes to your blog for the latest Skip Beat! and it makes us very happy that your putting all your time and effort to do this for us. Keep working hard and don't give up! Your blog is the first place I go too for the latest Skip Beat! chapter and the PS2 Summeries which are AMAZING and the BEST!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maj,
You're comment was quite rude. Sure, people they have lives, and I wasn't doing anything but stating my opinion. Mechgouki manages to get the translations/scanlations out in what I consider a "timely manner" meaning that the raws and the translations from Franky House have been out for a day and half and they haven't even posted an update on the approximate date/time they should be out. What gives you the right to bash on other people that are just supporting someone else? I am currently learning Japanese, but Kanji takes time to learn, and I like to read it in my native language. You said the same exact thing everyone else did, except you had to be rude to the people that had posted prior to you. Mechgouki, I'm still on the hunt for Hana to Yume. I've contacted a few possible resources and when they get back to me I'll let you know!!

    Best of luck,
    Rachel

  21. for the love of god, just don't stop!!>___<
i love you for making me being able of reading SB!!! XD

    ReplyDelete
  22. well I like both really fh and Mechgouki's scans. It's just that the raws came out before the official date skip beat is supposed to be out, and fans already expect a scanlation to be out! And I like to read mechgouki's scans before hand because scanlation groups work in a team, somebosy who translates (or fh's case wait for waffle's scans), then the cleaning typesetting proofing etc. therefore it takes time for good quality scans to be out. And usually fh don't give a definite indication to how far they are with sb, it's up to them if they want update the fans with what's going on.

I like mechgouki's scans because they are out fast, and plus he does it himself. I appreciate hard work from mechgouki and scanlation teams. So it annoys me when people are so impatient, that's all. I may have offended but I don't think it is out of line since I commend all the efforts people put behind sb scanlations, so no matter how long the wait I can endure, no pressure from me :D If I could I would help out for sure :D

mechgouki, I hope you can get a raw source soon! Problem is with FH releasing raws early, it appears all the other raw providers have become lazy and stopped providing them... If only someone had a billwang account, then we could have got another source there, but I don't know chinese or else I'd have helped.

    Maj

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh I wasn't bashing people for supporting other scans, I was bashing impatience :D

    Maj

    ReplyDelete
  24. I guess I can understand your reasoning there, Maj. I like FH also, but I admire how hard Mechgouki works to get the scanlations out earlier than other groups. FH and other groups just don't seem as committed as Mechgouki does.

I'm still on the hunt! Don't give up on my yet Mechgouki! I'm trying to find Hana to Yume!

Checking this link, it says the release is on 9/20 0_0 o_0

I don't have a credit card anyway, so I think I have to get from a retail store rather than online.

I checked Billwang's site. Registration is by invitation only. They don't let outsiders in.

Thanks for your support, everyone. I am hoping to be able to solve this problem soon.

  30. @T24, you don't remember? Previously, all the raws were scanned by Chinglan from Baidu. She wasn't very strict on who used the scans.

Now, all the current raws are scanned by Franky House. And they don't allow other groups to use their scans.

So without Chinglan doing the scans, I have no raws that I can use.

@Dragonista, thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy my work. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just curious... how does is work? I mean.. there is this magazine. And lets suppose u have that one in your hands. You put it on a scanner and do some scans of the manga you need. Lets say Skip Beat *lol* and than these scans are raws? Called raws because they are used for translation and so on? Are these the steps? (Sorry I'm from Europe and just learning english ^^'')

    ReplyDelete
  36. I really appreciate your work and effort doing this, so please continue if you can. ^^

Maybe you can try obtaining the Hana to Yume magazine through a middleman. I'm using the service from crescent trading (http://www.crescent-shop.com/index.htm) when there is no possibility for me to get things from an online shop. They are reliable and are shipping worldwide.

For best results, you take the magazine and cut out the relevant pages. Then you scan those pages in the highest resolution you can manage (important so that translators can zoom in on the fine print) and save the scans in JPEG format. Done. You will then have made RAWs.

  39. I really enjoy reading your blog and your translations. I don't want to read it from somebody else's website or blog.

Sorry I don't know where to get the scans for you. But I pray that someone can find it for you and that I can always read it from your blog.

    Please don't stop...

  40. Sounds pretty easy... wait.. cut em out?! Outsch. That would be the point where I will probably performe an epic fail...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, if you want to keep it intact, press the book down while scanning. Never done this before though. :/

    ReplyDelete
  42. I hope you still continue on the translation, FH release and translation doesnt really come out quick. FH sometimes doesnt come out as quickly, it's depends on the crew's available or not. Maybe you should do the update depends on availability on the raw.

I think shaea wants to collaborate or something, it doesn't come out well?

Actually i come to this blog more to see PS2 game updates, but i think you are more concentrated on the manga now. Nothing bad, but i hope you continue on doing the PS2 since its almost finished :) and i'm sooo getting curious >_>

    all the best

  43. I hope you'll continue too! >////<
    I like reading it here!

And I'll even clean scans for you!

    ReplyDelete
  44. The pressing down of the book is an option but as far as I can judge this magazine... nah its like an book. Looks like its total weight is about 8734912412 kilos and so on and when you are very lucky Skip Beat is somewhere in the middle of this bible and thus leads to very stupid scans at the end cuz you won't get everything without having the pages disorted *lol* Mitsuki would have to correct the diminsions too besides cleaning the pages xD. That is pretty frustrating =D trust me I have lots of experience <.<. Tomorrow I'll visit a japanese bookstore... let's see how it looks like in my hands (if they have it!) and how difficult (or not) it is to get it. But Katherine could obtain it easily too =D ??

    ReplyDelete
  45. Note that it has to be 2 days before the official release. If it's like they ship 1 week after, it's already too late. :(

    ReplyDelete
  46. Actually I was thinking of kinokuniya too. Maybe reserve will be faster?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'll be wiser by tomorrow.. T_T

  48. continue, please, mech?

this is always the first place i come to check for the newest chapter! and i'm so impatient i don't want to wait for someone else to translate them!!

sigh, if i only managed to get Hana to Yume in my hands... but shipping ANYTHING from any foreign country to finland will take forever... >___< so i can't help with this problem at all. all i can do is support you while you have these problems..

  51. Mechgouki-kun.. I support you too. you were doing such a great job. please don't stop, a lot of fans will be sad.

As for the raws.. I'm like everyone else, not sure which subscriptions those people used to obtain the raws 2 days prior to release date. I wish I know anybody who had tried those websites mentioned above to see if they released and shipped out before release date.

Your best bet is either checking with those people like ChingLan and see if they are willing to share the knowledge on how to obtain the raws that fast. I understand that you can't use FH raws since they are more strict about it. And ChingLan probably won't bother to scan hers if FH released their raws before she could get to do her own.

Or you mentioned visiting Kinokuniya, they will have the magazine, just not sure if they will have it prior to release date. Hmm.. maybe you can visit them and check with them?

There is only 1 very tiny Japanese store in my area, and I think they have Hana to Yume, but I'm not sure when they received their shipment either (I doubt it's earlier than release date). I guess I can go there and check with them, if they got it early, maybe I can obtain it and scan it myself.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Miffy

Sounds pretty easy... wait.. cut em out?! Outsch. That would be the point where I will probably performe an epic fail...

That's for the best result. Otherwise, the scan might show a distorted image toward the spine, especially for the thicker magazines that are like phone directories.

But Katherine could obtain it easily too =D ??

Nope. I don't even have a Kinokuniya in my country! I buy the tankoubon and can't bring myself to break the spine, much less cut out pages.

    ~ Katherine

    ReplyDelete
  53. Typically the only raw providers who can get the magazines early actually live in Japan, or have contact with someone in Japan. They usually can just go to local convenience stores, which sometimes put the magazines out as soon as they arrive, especially a magazine like Hana to Yume over something like weekly shonen jump. There is virtually no way someone in another country can get the raws early. I've heard that some people can subscribe in Hong Kong or Taiwan and get the mags on the day of release, but early I only hear of people in Japan.

As for getting the raws out of the magazine, try looking up unbinding. All good raw providers unbind to some extent, whether via blade or melting the glue of the spine.

    ReplyDelete
  54. http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=881935704 found new raws i think?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hey, not sure whether anyone has given you the same information yet or not, because I haven't read through the above comments.

I'm from Singapore, and I have been ordering Hana to Yume and LaLa magazines for about a year now. The only Kinokuniya that allows subscriptions is the one at Liang Court (Clark Quay).

Actually, the magazines arrive before the release date. For example, HanaYume usually releases on the 5th and 20th of every month, but when I collect them around 1 - 3 days earlier, they've already arrived in Singapore.

Good luck (: Hope this helped.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Cherry Chi. You postet yesasia. Where can I find Hana to Yume there? Just being curious because I am too stupid to find it ^^''

Oops, my mistake, I was listing online
sites that could help you have a subscription
to Hana to Yume if you buy their stuff.
I was thinking that might help, but I guess
    it won't. ^^;

    ReplyDelete
  57. Today I was at the japanese bookstore called OCS. Supposed to be a big one. They told me that they get their magazines every friday and when I asked when they will usually get Hana to Yume she told me they get it at least one week after it publication in Japan. But I am holding the newest Hana to Yume magazine in my hands *lol*.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hm, not sure, I rarely use the Raffles line. But I usually alight at Clark Quay station, same line as Outram and Dhoby Ghaut. Liang Court is near Chinatown too. (I'm not sure, but I think Chinatown should be near Raffles? Lol.)

    ReplyDelete
  62. So it's the northeast line. I'll try that thanks.

Too bad I'm not in Singapore right now, I would help and buy the magazine too if I'm in either Singapore or Japan, or any other cities that had the bookstore with early release of Hanatoyume.
