This doesn't seem to have the amount of response I had expected. :( I saw a lot of people plugging their fanfics, that's why I did this, but the response is just cold...
I wonder if I should set this rule? Stories that kill off any of the main casts, ARE NOT ALLOWED! NO KILLING OF KYOUKO, REN, OR EVEN SHOU!

I once read a fanfiction that has Kyouko dying, and I felt at the time, the only person who should die is the person writing that fanfic.
LOL!!! Ummm, I'm not a fan of censorship so I don't think there should be a rule against posting fic.s where a main character dies. I do think that it be necessary for the person to mention that a major character dies.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I read that fanfic where Kyoko dies. I cried a little. But, I also felt that the author and Nakamura were able to make the characters deep enough for the people to connect to, etc. and actually put the story on a new scale.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Aphrodite that it will be necessary to mention up front if the story contains the death of a major characters.. so that people can choose whether to start reading it or not.. some people might not want to read it, some might like it... I personally, don't think I'm fond of any major characters dying at all.. LOL
I just finished reading Spherrow's "playing with fire".. very interesting.. I think it was very well done.. some fans would love to see the always calm Ren loses control once in a while.. and Kyoko too.. so please continue, Spherrow.. I'll follow the story to the end.
it's getting late now over here.. after midnight.. getting tired.. so I guess I'll continue to read the other 2 fanfics tomorrow..

Mechgouki, yes, I have some fanfics but I don't plan on releasing until the next few weeks. I want to get a few more chapters done in advance before I release them officially, triple check for grammatical errors, and really weird phrasing of ideas, etc.

That was the point to begin with! Reviews, feedbacks, people are supposed to give them. I'm sure the writers would want that too. Criticism should be given when necessary.

Her tears were falling hard and she couldn't find her voice to refuse. When Shou took her in his arms and hugged her, she felt a small piece of happiness settle in her heart that had been missing since they first came to Tokyo.
Perhaps there was a happily ever after in their future after all.

Grrrr! Why does it have to be like that always? You're really getting hooked into the history and it ends at the climax, leaving you with appehension and curiosity and eagerness for what's going to happen next....! *sigh* I guess I'll just have to be patient...

From there, I'll take the last two chapters of Ren and Kyoko's afterward and make a second fanfic from them. Reason being, that part will/should be stand-alone as it largely does NOT focus on the Disaster that was Valentine's Day.
I would be honored if you still read the next/last Afterward chapter even though it doesn't ofcus on Ren ad Kyoko, but I would understand if you don't.
I'll post on here and on FrankyHouse when I start the next fanfic continuing on that story. Watch for it!
@ everyone - Thank you very much for the compliments! If there is anything you may think I can do to improve my stories or my writing, please let me know! I know there are a few spelling/word choice errors (such as 'her' when it should be 'him'), no need to let me know those. I already intend to go back and correct them when I finish the fics.
When editing my own fanfiction, sometimes I miss things like those little errors because my mind works to complete the sentence as I re-read it, so when it actually says 'he saw his' but is meant to be 'she saw his', my eyes don't notice the lack of letter. I do usually notice them later when I come back to re-read my chapter in order to write the next one.
@ everyone again - I wanted to say, when I write, I write with the intent to elicit response from the readers. Meaning, I want to make you feel emotion or feel like you are a part of the story. That's part of the reason I constantly leave Playing with Fire chapters at a cliffhanger. It leaves you wanting more. (wanting would be the response elicited.)
I really like comments on my stories, not becuase I'm looking for personal glory, but because it tells me that I have succeeded in my goal to elicit response from you, the readers.
The greatest compliment you can give a writer is to know that you liked their work. So, thank you on my behalf and Mitsuki's.
Yeah ^.^ when readers tell me what they liked about my story it tells me that I did good on that part. For example most people would tell me that I kept the characters relatively in character which was something that I wanted to do. ^.^

And there are times when I feel like I'm not making my story interesting... and stuff so feedback is very important to me! Like if ready my fanfic makes you feel sleep I want to know that so I can make it better for you guys.

ReplyDeleteThe Pros: You did keep the characters relatively as they are. And also I loved the introduction of two new characters, the twin singers. They do fit in and I could actually see them show up one day in the Skip Beat Anime. :)
The cons: The way that you write the story...the point of views are a bit confusing sometimes...because you're telling the story from Kyoko's eyes and then from Ren's eyes.
However, that's what makes your story stand out and make it interesting. It's differently written so this is a pro too.
I like it how you maintain the comedy side of the story too. It's well balance with the lovey dovey stuff and the funny stuff.
Oh! and you may spell incorrectly sometimes but a lot of the time they seemed like typos to me...
Anyhow, keep up the good work. You're doing great! :)

Hello! I just finished reading the updates for Spherrow's 'Playing with Fire'. Wow! I can't seem to get enough of it. I love how you keep everything in balance in the story. I'll be looking forward to the next chapter...I can't wait to see what Kyoko and Ren will do now that they'll be together for a 2nd night in a row! I wonder if it will be Ren or Kyoko who will make a mistake and blurt out what they feel for each other...Ha ha ha ha!

Though, the reader who gave the negative review was definitely not in the same mindset as I was, they had a valid point since not everyone may realize the same thing about Kyoko's reaction in Playing With Fire.
SOOOoooo... I thought I'd mention it here first (it'll be in the Author's Chat a bit next chapter).
It may seem strange to some that Kyoko has the reaction she does to what Ren has done to her. The negative reviewer thought it was very OOC and 'stupid' and "naive" of her.
Truth of the matter is, it wasn't about Kyoko's intelligence at all. I firmly believe Kyoko is an intelligent person, and while she may be niave, she knows things but has not experienced them. In that light, it makes her pure. i.e. her mind doesn't automatically think the worst of situations nor does she frequently go gutter-brained.
In the situation I put her in in PWF, she was psychologically traumatized. NOT because something so incredibly horrible happened, but rather it happened before she was really ready and that she was mentally not herself at the time.
This resulted in cognitive dissonance. Her mental state was so mixed up that she's dealing with it the only way she can. Rationalization. In this case, she's rationalizing what happened with the fact that she was acting at the time, so it must have been practice.
She's blaming herself for what happened partially because she had already been warned by Ren about loosing control of Natsu and how it could make her performance lack.
It becomes a form of self-victimization, much the same as how people who are abused feel/believe that the abuse is their own fault.
Essentially, Kyoko mentally can not deal with the reality of what is going on, so she is dealing the only way she can; psychological defense mechanisms.
(Ever think I would put that much thought into the fic? I do.)
@Spherrow.. I read that negative review you mentioned.. it's true that some people will look at it from a different angle.. thinking no matter how naive and inexperience someone is, they wouldn't go that far into thinking that way..
ReplyDeleteHowever, considering how Kyoko's character is an unusual one, how she always assume the worst sometimes, and seems to automatically rationalize things by putting blames on herself sometimes whenever someone is angry with her (or she thinks they are angry at her when they could be just in bad mood over something else, LOL) and extremely dense in regards to others feelings for her..

ReplyDeleteI don't even know why I went there when mechgouki said it was NSFW >_< Sometimes though, nsfw isn't "that bad." This one, if anyone else thinks it might not be "too bad," includes a side character's nipples. (sorry if that ruins the surprise, mechgouki, I just thought maybe other people might want more warning XD)
Honestly, I didn't think the art was particularly good either on that one. :-/ But that's just me. ^^
That NSFW link is actually pretty good for a henati artist. It certainly isn't perfect, but the parts that should be emphasized were done well, and she's advertising safe sex! *cough*for a very small man. *cough*

The "Not Safe For Work" pic of Moko was drawn well, and at first I thought that the item in her mouth was a sucker, but...I was totally wrong. The artist did a good job, but it doesn't really appeal to me.

The latest chapters of Skip Beat are really picking up, and after Chapter 200 I can't wait to see what type of creativity it brings out of its fans! As a native English speaker, the translations since you left have been consistently late and TERRIBLE, and I feel like I'm missing half of the story.
